Tattoo Removal

In villages, many traditional people have their names or images of their favorite gods tattooed on their forearm or even the ‘tikka’ tattooed on their forehead. Today, tattoos have become a fashion statement among young and old alike. Also, the creative art of tattooing has also become a promising career for many across the world.

It may happen that the tattoo may be poorly placed or the desire to have a tattoo on your body may have dissipated or the site may have become infected. In such cases, the need for removing the tattoo arises. Tattoos are etched deeply into the skin. In previous days, traditional methods of tattoo removal included dermabrasion and the use of chemicals that were very painful and caused immense scarring.

At Radiance Clinic modern technology has brought the best lasers, which are not only gentler on the skin, but also help in effective removal of the tattoo that too with least scarring. The lasers used will have different wavelengths, pulse durations and different laser beams are absorbed by specific colours. Advantage of laser is that it can be used to selectively target and destroy the tattoo without damaging the surrounding tissue. The skin should be more uniform and look natural after treatment that is the reason all efforts are made, though some changes in skin texture is unavoidable.

What is the actual procedure?

Initially, the doctor will cleanse the tattoo area and area around to remove oil on the skin. An intense rapid laser beam is sent on the area and on the patient skin feels intense emission of light being penetrated. Tattoo absorbs the light and the pigment in the tattoo breaks down allowing the body’s natural defence mechanism to gently and progressively remove the tattoo particles. Every laser treatment takes nearly about 10 and 20 minutes. Depending on the depth and color of the tattoo the number of sessions will vary. Many of the tattoo removals require 8-10 sessions and these sessions are performed at intervals of 4 weeks.

What can I expect after the treatment?

The complete treatment involves no pain at all and just a slight stinging sensation. The treated area may be red for several weeks. Some amount of bruising can occur and if in case the tattoo is very deep, bleeding may also occur. It is always recommended to avoid exposure to sun to ensure healing faster. Older tattoos are easier to remove than newer ones. Tattoos involving fluorescent colours are least responsive to treatment. With advanced and modern lasers, scarring is rare although the skin undergoes changes in texture and colour. The treated area may become rough or hardened. Laser treatment is the most efficacious method to remove tattoos or any pigment from the skin.
